Meet Xueba 01, China's first AI robot to enter a PHD program.
Shanghai-based DroidUp introduced the hyper-realistic android at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), which featured more than 60 distinct humanoid robot models from about 80 companies. The startup, launched in 2023, says its new android blends the lifelike qualities of its AI-powered robotic heads and its flagship industrial bipedal humanoid, the Walker 02, which is reportedly being tested for public safety patrols and factory work.
As part of the experiment, the AI robot will study emotional expression, storytelling, and human-machine dynamics alongside real students.
