At 2 a.m., I fell into an AI rabbit hole..helpful at first, until it wasn’t. The bot kept agreeing even as things got stranger, pushing me into real cases, real families, and one question: Is AI messing with our heads? This documentary explores what some clinicians call “AI psychosis” where chatbots, loneliness, confirmation bias, and mental-health vulnerability intersect. We trace the arc from ELIZA (1966) to today’s models that validate and engage without pushback, examine documented cases, show how sycophancy and algorithmic reinforcement distort perception, and unpack parasocial bonds with bots. Along the way, experts weigh in on whether AI triggers psychosis or amplifies existing risks, and why safeguards in consumer AI are still thin.
