AI glasses see a surge in sales in China

In China, people are seeing into the future with AI glasses… a trending product that's flying off shelves.

According to data from e-commerce platform JD.com, sales of AI glasses have surged 10 times in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year.

To demonstrate the glasses versatility, a reporter from CCTV asked her cameraman to don a pair to film her news story.

She then held a product up to her face at the grocery store. "Danish Blue Cheese," a voice told her.

How do other people use their AI glasses in China? One early adopter told the reporter she uses them to listen to music.

When the reporter interviewed an engineer at a company that makes AI glasses, he was able to rattle off statistics that appeared in his field of vision, saying the glasses have gone from being a niche geek toy to a consumer product with mass appeal.

Identifying food calories, monitoring stock trends, and real-time foreign language translation are all application scenarios for the glasses.

And paying for things. The product manager of another company that makes AI glasses said to pay for an item, the wearer simply looks at the price tag, speaks the price verbally, and confirms the payment.

Data from JD.com shows the average price of a pair of AI smart glasses has dropped from roughly 279 U.S. dollars to about 209 thanks to national subsidies and industrial chain collaborations.
