More than 30 medical organisations are urging Parliament to reform the laws around abortion.

As the law stands, women in England and Wales could be prosecuted if they do not go through official clinics to terminate their pregnancy.

A joint statement signed by leading abortion care providers and institutions such as the British Medical Association, Women’s Aid, and the Royal College of Gynaecologists, asks politicians to review the law that criminalises women who end their pregnancy outside the legal abortion limits.

A Sky News investigation last year revealed a rise in the number of women facing prosecution over illegal abortions.
